I have been going to Simojovel to buy amber since 1989. I began making beads and pendants in 1994. Since then I have learned a lot about the different deposits in the Simojovel area. The amber can vary between useless bunk to very high grade chunks. Every piece that is used in my studio is hand picked by me. I guarantee that every piece of jewelry that I sell is true untreated Chiapas Amber made in my studio on Gabriola Island.
The red amber is a natural material, although the red colour is usually only on the exterior of the piece. When cut and polished this can produce different shades of red, different shades of green and also blue. Some inclusions produce different colours as well. With the yellow amber I leave some of the natural exterior ( skin ) on part of the piece to produce patterns and colours.
In the production of my jewelry I only use water for cooling and lubrication. I do not use any chemicals, acids, irradiation or heat processes.
