When I decided to sell amber pendants, on silk cord, I thought it would be wise to devise a method of removing the cord in an emergency. After several attempts, I devised a safety link that will open with an extreme pull. You can have the safety link soldered but personally I feel that any cord tied around your neck should have a safety link.
On our pendants over $50 we use a handmade sterling silver clasp. We designed a safety link into these clasps, for your protection. Under normal conditions the link may open slightly, but it takes a hard pull to open the link. If the link pulls apart I suggest replacement, any Silversmith can replace this easily.
On our Pendants under $50 we use manufactured sterling silver clasps. We snip one section to create a safety link. If you experience a hard pull and the link opens, it may need replacing.
